HI WE’RE THE FLIPS

Originating on Chicago’s South Side, we were brought together by shared musical interests, mutual friendships, and Craigslist postings. We’ve been a band for a while, and we’ve changed a lot in that time. As musicians and as people. Our sound has always been defined by the honest and earnest songwriting of lead vocalist Nick Sintos, and the desire to make the biggest noise on stage we possibly can. But in between massive waves of sound, we find moments of quiet vulnerability.

Our lineup solidified with 2015’s Better Days, an album written by Nick in the wake of a suicide attempt and subsequent inpatient hospitalization and treatment. The album explores themes of mental health, the experience of intensive therapy, and finding a way forward from depression and self harm. Many of the songs in our catalog reflect these challenges, including the often overlooked mental health struggles of Asian-Americans. Since the release of this album, we’ve brought emotive and raw performances to stages in Chicago and across the Midwest, from transient DIY spaces to iconic Chicago clubs like The House of Blues and Metro.

We have continued evolving our sound, releasing the EPs Exactly Where I Should Be in 2018, which explored more pop-forward writing, and A Drug To The Dour in 2023, which was defined by brooding, textured production laden with guitars and synthesizers. Pushing forward still, 2024 saw the release of two new singles: “The Wake,” an expansive reworking of an intimate vignette originally on A Drug To The Dour, and “Freefall,” which propels a chorus begging to be sung back by a packed club. We’re always looking forward to what’s ahead, and we hope to share a moment or two with you soon.
